The
ESEP Teacher Research Fellowship Program (ETRF) is a teacher professional development program that immerses middle school and high school teachers in environmental science research experiences and includes the following components:
- An intensive 7-week summer program that includes a residential week-long workshop on conducting science research and applying it in the classroom and a 6-week research experience in a university or government environmental research facility.
- Extensive follow-up and support during the academic year.
- Comprehensive dissemination of fellow products via the web and to teaching peers through hands-on workshops and conferences.

The objectives of the ETRF Program are:
- To improve teacher science content knowledge within the context of the environment.
- To help teachers develop and implement lessons that build on real-world environmental data that links to individual state and national science standards.
- To disseminate teacher developed and tested lessons to their peers locally, regionally and nationally through the web and conference presentations.
